Student Information

Welcome

H&H Accredited Training is pleased to welcome you and trust that your experience with H&H is both beneficial and enjoyable. H&H understands that it can be difficult trying to organise your time, transport, childcare and personal affairs and its professional staff are there to assist you. In order to make your experience with H&H as pleasant as possible, there are some requirements that need to be adhered to and your cooperation is appreciated.

Entry into H&H courses is open to all those participants wishing to gain qualifications in which H&H is registered to deliver.

Participants are provided with guidance on course selection where applicable, and vocational education outcomes. H&H will also assist in the identification of funding sources where students are not able to meet these costs.

Training Facilities

In-house facilities (i.e. telephones, facsimile and computers with internet access) are available for use by appointment. Photocopies are available at 20 cents per page. Tea and coffee making facilities are also available.

Competency Based Training

Nationally accredited courses delivered by H&H (RTO) are competency based. This means that training is delivered based on units of competency developed by the relevant industry.

Students’ abilities are assessed against these units of competency on a “can do” basis. When students can demonstrate competency and show that they have the required skills and knowledge, they can be assessed as competent. If students are not successful on the first attempt, they are provided with feedback and given further opportunities to demonstrate competency.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Students are entitled to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and/or Credit Transfer. Please ask for a copy of the RPL/Credit Transfer application form should this apply.

H&H will recognise the AQF qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by any other RTO and employer letters for RPL/RCC applications.

Enrolment

Students are required to complete an enrolment form before commencing study. This form is used to create a student history file. All personal information is strictly confidential.

A deposit of 10% of the course cost is payable at the time of enrolment. Students will participate in H&H induction program on day one of the training. This induction will include facility information, course content information, assessment procedures and training pathways on course completion.

Conduct of Assessment

Assessment is conducted in accordance with the National Assessment Principles which underpin the Australian Quality Training Framework.

Assessment is competency based, against the standards outlined in the units of competency in National Training Packages. It includes:

  • assessment to determine the training needs
  • assessment during the training to judge how participants are progressing
  • assessment at the end of each unit of training undertaken
  • recognition of prior-learning or recognition of current competency

Assessment is conducted in accordance with the course being undertaken, including on-the-job assessment for work experience and assessment in classroom situations. This involves the collection of sufficient evidence to demonstrate the participant is competent. It may include:

  • observation of processes carried out on-the-job
  • measurement of knowledge and understanding
  • observation of the attitudes the participant demonstrates

Assessment methods may involve the participant in:

  • demonstrating their skills
  • providing a service
  • answering written and/or oral questions
  • participating in discussions
  • collecting examples of work

Appeals against Assessment Results

If you do not agree with your assessment, you should first discuss the result with your trainer. If you cannot reach a resolution you can appeal to our Training Manager. If you are still not satisfied then you have the right to get an independent expert to decide.

Students have 30 days from the date of their assessment to appeal against the assessment result. They can appeal on the grounds that:

  • They were not told about the assessment process for the course.
  • The assessment process differed significantly from what they were told.
  • The assessment environment adversely affected their performance.
  • They believe that they demonstrated competency in the assessment/s.

Students who want to appeal are advised to contact the Training Manager during office hours, 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday on 02 9897 3633. H&H will respond to assessment appeals in writing.

Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information Act 1989 gives you the right to access documents held by H&H. Under the Act, you are also able to ensure that the records held by us concerning your personal affairs are not incomplete, missing, out-of-date or misleading. You can arrange to access your records at any time by advising us in writing and paying a fee of $30.00.

You can only ask to see document/s which may contain the information that you are seeking. You cannot ask for an answer to a specific question or ask for a document to be created specially to meet your request.

Learner Support

The learning support strategies offered by H&H Accredited Training College trainers and assessors include:

  • providing and explaining written learning materials and illustrations to reinforce the learning
  • clarifying technical jargon
  • ensuring individual support and advice to participants
  • negotiating opportunities for ‘hands-on’ experience and practice (where applicable)
  • offering telephone support and advice

A fundamental element of the H&H training system is the provision of additional support for those participants who require further assistance in the areas of language, literacy and numeracy support.

Students with learning difficulties beyond the H&H trainer and assessors’ area of expertise are referred to external specialist agencies such as community colleges, or disability support agencies. In the event of a participant having language difficulties, in some instances, interpreters are sought and utilised.

Grievances

We are confident that you will be pleased with your course. Trainers are skilled and aware of the needs of students. If there should be a problem with your course, please raise it with the trainer in the first instance. Most problems can be resolved this way. If after raising the problem with the trainer the problem was not solved, or if you do not feel comfortable raising it with the trainer, then you should discuss the matter with the College staff.
